This is my first year going to Coachella, and I must admit, I am beyond excited! After sieving through about a month’s worth of articles and fashion inspiration, I’ve finally narrowed down what I’m going to pack to two suitcases. I know this may still seem like a lot, but we’ll be gone for 10 days and this #bloggerlife demands supplies! Justin and I decided to drive down from Vancouver and spend a week road tripping back up after the first Coachella weekend… So really, are two suitcases that extravagant?
What You Should Pack For Coachella
There are a few factors to consider when you’re packing for festival season. Firstly, the weather may not be what you expect. In Indio, the California desert in April can get as hot as 40’C in the day but cool down to 10’C at night. That does not mean the endless array of short dresses and flower headbands I was originally planning to bring!
Secondly, what is the style scene? I wouldn’t recommend anyone rock an Hermes bandage dress and heels to Burning Man. Nor would I recommend a pencil skirt and blazer for Coachella! Always keep your natural sense of style, but you’ll probably be more comfortable if you dress appropriately.
Lastly, how much crap should you bring? You may not be laughing if you end up camping out with only the mirror in your powder foundation to keep you warm- your suitcase being filled with lipkits galore won’t do the trick. If you only have about a backpack of space, make sure you bring the necessities like sunscreen, a sweater, some protein bars, tequila… Just kidding! …You only need the tequila…
So 3 shots of tequila later, here is a list of 10 things you need to bring to Coachella:
Short Shorts- The days are more than hot enough to wear Coachella must haves like daisy dukes and cutoff denim shorts. I’m also bringing a loose pair of floral shorts. Floral prints are beyond festival friendly, and I’m not sure I’ll have many more opportunities for girly peony booty shorts!Tops- Vintage tees and flowy tanks are perfect for Coachella. I honestly don’t know that this festival’s fashion scene has ever really changed… Your 1975 led zeppelin shirts and flower headbands are more than welcome, encouraged even.
The Flows- Flowy cotton materials and fabrics are encouraged here! You’ll be much more comfortable than if you were in something skin tight. I brought some cute 100% cotton dresses and rompers that I can wear casually in the day but also dress up with heels for the private events.
Accessories- You can really make some fashion statements during festival season. When else are flash tattoos and henna the norm? The perfect chunky necklace or pair of rose gold sunglasses can really bring together your look, so don’t be afraid to be bold and make a statement.Protection- This means sunscreen, sunglasses, an umbrella if you have delicate skin, and yes, condoms. Sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable by mentioning condoms but, condoms condoms condoms!
Warmth- Because it can get so chilly at night you should definitely bring a sweater or light jacket to wrap around your waist or keep in your bag.
Visuals- Apparently selfie sticks are not allowed… and thank god because I still don’t have one and I hate being left out! I brought a relatively minimal amount of camera gear: my Nikon D5200, a tripod, and a remote. whether you bring a full suitcase of cameras or you use your iphone, capture as many awesome moments as you can.
The Bag- A tote or handbag will get annoying pretty quickly. Cross body bags or backpacks will be much easier to manage and less stressful to deal with. Generally, the easier it is to dance with, the better!
Soles- I brought one pair of sandals in case the fields aren’t as dusty as I’ve been reading they are. What can I say, sometimes I’m optimistic! Most likely I’ll be wearing my sneakers or booties all weekend. It would be wise to bring closed toe shoes. Drinks will be spilled and toes will surely be stepped on.
Wristbands- If you lose your wristband you’re screwed. You’ll either have to purchase one at the gate (if there are any even available) or call it a day. Treat it like you would cash and don’t forget it at home!
Let me know if you catch anything I forgot on the list. Hey, not everyone is perfect! Also, link up if you’re heading down the first weekend! More friends equals more fun. Happy weekend!
